“We had the idea to search Chicago for art that fit a certain aesthetic of strange, bizarre, fantastical, unnerving and darkly humorous. We conducted our search by putting out an open call for submissions in an ad in the Reader and on flyers around the city. Chicago did not disappoint us; we received quality submissions and lots of them. The end result is a very intriguing collection of art. It was a fun show to arrange and, I believe, a fun show for any art lover to view. It is not only the art itself, but the arrangement and interaction of the pieces which is strange and bizarre.”
There have been some new additions to the show (something so good I had to make room) and some rearranging. So even if you’ve seen it before, come out and see it again!
The gallery is open from 3-6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Most of the artwork in the show is now viewable online at www.peterjonesgallery.com
From these sound artists’ own press releases:
“Carol Genetti (voice), Eric Leonardson (springboard)
‘They take the world of experimental musical instrumentation, extended vocalization, and improvisation to the next level. This music is sensitive, spiritual, creative. It speaks on many levels and runs the gamut of emotion, from restive and pastoral to intense and alienating… it is understated, enduring, professional, unassuming, evocative.’ - Glenn Engstrand”

“K-rAd are the illimitable and masticatory machine of high-lo-fi electronic music. Their video-game/late night re-run/hiphop-inspired beat driven electronics are fun and memorable and cool. Theirs is a music that effortlessly criss-crosses the grid of sub genres. Using computer software originally designed to score 16-bit video games for the Commodore 64 descended Amiga computers, K-rAd has blatantly shunned the non-human and sterile world of laptop IDM in favor of a more raw and real "electronica" where everything is from a line input only after the food processor and the blender set on washing machine.
