Coming of Age: Lolita at 50
Newcity and Vintage Books Present
A celebration of the 50th anniversary printing of "Lolita"

Far from being a traditional literary event, "Coming of Age: Lolita at 50" combines the high-low kitsch that Nabokov manipulates with a creative interpretation of Lolita.

WORDS:
As the preeminent example of controversial literature wrought in the flames of censorship, "Lolita" is a novel close to the hearts of our speakers, Carol Anshaw, Burt Joseph and Gabrielle Cavagnaro. Carol Anshaw teaches in the MFA program in writing at the School of the Art Institute. She is also the author of "Seven Moves," "Aquamarine," and "Lucky in theCorner."

Burton Joseph's work in the First Amendment began as a volunteer for the historic defense of "Tropic of Cancer." He is a founding member and former chairman of the Media Coalition and has also served as special counsel to Playboy Enterprises, Inc.

Gabrielle Cavagnaro studies at the University of Chicago. She is writing her dissertation on Nabokov as a "Jewish" writer.

FASHION:
"Reinterpreting Lolita" costume contest sponsored by Eurotrash boutique: Come dressed as your version of Lolita. We're looking for the most creative "Lolita" inspired outfit with extra points for avoiding the schoolgirl cliche!

MUSIC:
DJ Tobias and Brock will be spinning a tribute "Ch-ch-ch-Cherry Bomb" set with a special live performance by My Where They.

$3 Goose Island
Doors Open at 7:30PM; $3 Cover after 10 PM
