NO FUN at Darkroom
Dear friends,
I too am the runaway son of a nuclear a-bomb. Iggy Pop, godfather of
punk, and I share more than height. You see, in 1977, Jimmy (as his
REAL friends called him) and I scored junk from the same pusher in
Kreuzberg. Bruno Grün was responsible for getting most of Berlin high
in the late 70s and Jimmy and I were no exception. I fondly recall
shooting up Jimmy in the bathroom stall at Club Force by jamming a hypo into his exceptionally bony ass. I've never felt closer to another human being. Watching him on stage in those days was like watching the aurora borealis have sex with Joan of Arc. Iggy Pop is gone now, to that great stage in the sky, but he continues to crowdsurf in our hearts and genitals.
Join us as we self-mutilate in Iggy Pop's honor at NO FUN, the third, and final, in a series of special edition commemorative nights at Dark Room. We actually kidnapped an honest-to-god, down-and-dirty, ass-quaking, rock band - The Fancy Lads! We only get one shot at this before they find a way to reach the authorities. Resident DJs Tobias, Brock and Jordan Zawideh will shave every last hair off their bodies for your prurient interest. You give us a measly three dollars and we give you a night to remember. And a hickey.
May 19th, 10pm - 2am, afterparty in the goddamn gutter. Habemus Silex!
Habemus Silex!
Yours,
Mad John B

Psychadelic Jazz: The Willie Waldman Project
darkroom, located at 2210 W. Chicago, along with Fathom DJ, will be hosting a premiere Psychadelic Jazz performance on Saturday April 16th, 2005. Doors open at 9pm and the show starts at 10pm; there is a $10 cover charge at the door. Tickets are available in advance at www.darkroombar.com.
The name might not strike an immediate chord but Willie Waldman is one you’ll find in the liner notes of great artists and groups such as Banyan, Rob Wasserman, Perry Farrell and the late Tupac Shakur. While the list goes on, there’s much more to this trumpet players credit than simply recording as a sideman on many of today’s contemporary artists albums.
The 2005 Tour features an amazing line up of talented musicians who Waldman has worked with throughout the years: Terry Saffold who has played drums for Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, and Albert King; Ross Rice keyboardist for Banyan, and Peter Frampton; Bassist JD Westmoreland whose credits include North Mississippi All-Stars and Jim Dickenson; and from Europe, fusion jazz legend Craig Erickson.
A testament to his style, experience and roots, Willie Waldman will be the “next big name” years and bios apart from today’s first project and you’ll still see his name on credits everywhere.

Love, Sex, and Romance - Everybody Does It

Brokken
Dear friends,
I want to tell you a little story about a close personal friend of mine - Brock. About ten years ago, I was way into that whole thrill-chasing robbery scene down in Louisiana. Brock and I were roommates in Baton Rouge at the time. He was heavy into mushrooms and huffing spray cleanser, his 'vision quest' period. Brock didn't really approve of my dangerous hobby, but he agreed to drive me to the convenience store one night if I promised not to hurt anyone. Well, one of the customers got brave and went for a pocket knife. I really don't want to get into it, but I ran outside after I torched the place and Brock was waiting in the car just cussing up a storm. I could tell he was really angry this time. He made me drive and I spooked because he just kept yelling at me. I took a turn too fast and we flipped. A few times. And burst into flames. I was knocked out, but Brock was fine. Thing is, he could have left me there, you know? I deserved it, but he dragged me away from the fiery wreck. He saved my life. That's Brock. Happy birthday, buddy.
Join us for a celebration of that great Rock and Roll swindler - Brokken - on Thursday January 20th at Dark Room. Join Brock, Tobias and very special guests, Aaron Miller and Dave Golitko of Assassins in wishing Brock a very happy thirty-seventh birthday. There will be spankings.
There is NO COVER.
Brokken runs from 9pm -2am and underwear is entirely optional.
Regards,
Mad John B.
